Etsy’s photo size guidance

Etsy recommends listing images at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side, and asks for photos that work in both square and rectangular crops, because the same photo is shown cropped differently in search, in shop sections and on the listing page (see Etsy’s requirements and best practices for images). Large, sharp photos also let buyers zoom in on the detail of handmade work.

What this page does

It resizes every photo to 3000 pixels on the longest side, enlarging smaller ones, and keeps each photo’s own shape, so nothing is cropped or padded — Etsy does the cropping for each place a photo appears. Most camera and phone photos (4:3 or 3:2) come out with 2000 px or more on the short side. Each is saved as a JPG at 85% quality.

Make the set consistent

A shop looks more professional when every listing photo has the same shape. To make them all square instead, pick the Instagram or Shopify preset in the bulk image editor, or crop them to one ratio first with the bulk image cropper. To brighten a dull background, the bulk background remover can put products on white.

Frequently asked questions

What size should Etsy listing photos be?
Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side. This page resizes every photo to 3000 pixels on its longest side and keeps its shape, so a 4:3 photo comes out at 3000 × 2250 and a 3:2 photo at 3000 × 2000. A photo much wider than 3:2 ends up under 2000 on its short side — choose a larger size for those.
Should Etsy photos be square?
Etsy shows listing photos in square and rectangular crops in different places, and suggests photos that look right either way — keep the product in the middle with some space around it. That is why this page keeps each photo’s own shape instead of cropping it.
Can I add my shop name to the photos?
Yes. Turn on the text watermark step, type your shop name and choose a corner. It is placed at the same relative size on every photo.
Are my photos uploaded?
