How to use

  1. Add your WebP images

Drop a folder onto the box above, or press Select images. Up to 200 at a time; they stay on your machine.

  2. Check the background

Transparent images are marked. Pick white, black or light grey to go behind them in the JPG.

  3. Convert and download

Each image lists its old and new format. Take one, or the whole batch as a ZIP.

Why WebP files need converting

Websites serve images as WebP because it is typically 25–35% smaller than a JPG that looks the same, so pictures saved from the web very often arrive as .webp files. That is fine in a browser and a nuisance almost everywhere else: plenty of desktop software, document editors and upload forms still expect a JPG or PNG. Converting a batch to JPG makes every one of them usable again.

Transparency and the background colour

WebP can store transparency; JPG cannot. Converting a transparent WebP means choosing what goes behind it, and the usual failure is that nothing does and the transparent parts turn black. This page fills them with white by default, lets you choose black or light grey instead, and tells you which images are affected before anything runs. For logos and cut-out product shots that must stay transparent, choose PNG under Convert to.

Quality and size

The JPG quality starts at 82%, visually the same as the original on a screen. Because WebP compresses better, the JPGs will usually be somewhat larger than the files you started with — expected, and the cost of compatibility. If a size limit matters, run the results through the bulk image compressor, which can aim for a size in KB.

Other conversions

This page is the bulk image converter opened on JPG. The same batch can go to PNG, AVIF or ICO, and there are ready-made pages for iPhone HEIC to JPG and AVIF to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Why won’t my WebP images open?
WebP is a web format: every current browser shows it, but some desktop apps, older versions of Windows Photos and Photoshop, office software, print shops and many upload forms still do not accept it. Converting to JPG gives you a file all of them understand.
What happens to a transparent WebP?
JPG cannot be transparent, so the transparent areas are filled — with white by default, or black or light grey if you choose. The page marks which images have transparency before you convert. If you need it kept, convert to PNG instead.
Are animated WebPs converted?
No. A JPG holds one still picture, and a browser canvas only ever sees an animation’s first frame, so animated WebPs are refused when you add them rather than quietly flattened.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser; the images never leave your computer. That is why there is no account and no limit on how often you use it.
